Turbulence well ahead of air vehicle can be measured by Ophir’s small, highly efficient and rugged optical air data system, senseAir™.

The detection, identification, mitigation and avoidance of turbulent gusts are critical to the long-term health and operational costs of future aircraft.

A real-time turbulence detection system can detect clear air turbulence when there are no visible warning signs.

Some turbulence alerting systems use meteorological data that may be several hours old.  Conversely, current real-time turbulence detection systems appear to be too large to be used in commercial aircraft.

Ophir’s use of incoherent lidar solves both of these problems with a small avionics package that provides real-time data.
